HOW URBAN REC IS KEEPING YOU HEALTHY: COVID-19

We completely understand that the COVID-19 (coronavirus) is causing concern and uncertainty among everyone. We are diligently following the advice of Department of Health (Australian Government) and Health NSW and as to new measures we should take.

Today our Government announced advice to cancel gatherings above 500 people (this is not a ban). At this stage, they have not advised the general public to stop their usual activities like going to work, grocery shopping and attending recreational activities.

With precautionary measures in place, Urban Rec activities will go ahead as scheduled and all Urban Rec policies will remain in effect including the default and refund policy. If the situation becomes extreme, and small gatherings are banned (or advised to cancel) by our government, we will ensure your games are played when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

The decision to advise against mass public gatherings is one we understand, as those event attract thousands of people who are often required to travel to attend.

Urban Rec would like to advise the steps we are taking to ensure our members remain as healthy as possible.

  • It goes without saying, if you are sick, stay at home and get better - especially if you have been travelling.
  • If you don't want to shake hands at the end of the game, we understand - a fun and friendly toe-tap is a great way to show your thanks - or a virtual high-five.
  • We will be making sure we work with our venues and keep everything hygienic and clean.
  • Any bibs or equipment will be cleaned weekly

Most of all, the best thing you can do to protect yourself from illness, is remain active and remain healthy.

King/Queen of the Flag Gridiron Field

February 24, 2020 - 4 years ago

WEEK 1, WEDNESDAY 19 FEBRUARY

The Weather Gods blessed us with a fabulous evening on Wednesday night, perfect conditions for the first ever night of Flag Football in Newcastle. With a stack of newbies showing up it was so good to see new faces to Urban Rec as well as a bunch of veterans.

There are a few things we are doing differently this competition. It is a 6 week competition so instead of the usual 10 weeks we run, we are changing it up so that players are scored on their participation, win and MVP status. The players at the end of the season with the highest MVP points will win the prizes.

The scores for the first round are listed below. Here is how it works..

1 point = participation

1 point = winning team

2 points = voted MVP by opposition team

We will post updated scores after next weeks game but for the last 4 weeks of the competition we will keep it a secret so it’s a nice surprise at the end. Honestly, who doesn’t love surprises!?

WEEK 2, Wednesday march 4

Week 2 of Flag Gridiron involved teams being seperated into groups depending on their Birth Month. That meant players were able to play against their mates. Some players were absolutely loving the fact they could burn their friends with a sideline dash and touch down. It’s creating a very social vibe down at Waratah Park of a Wednesday evening with many of them heading to the Royal Inn Hotel for a beverage and debrief after the game.

Here are the scores for this week. We won’t be posting any scores after this week, so it is your last chance to get a glimpse of where everyone is at.

Individual Teams Looking for Players!

January 6, 2020 - 4 years ago

Individual’s are welcome!

New to Newcastle or want to play social sport but don’t have enough mates to create a team?

That is what Urban Rec is here for! We are your social sport gurus with the purpose of getting people out and about, playing sport and having a laugh doing it. With the perfect mix of sport and social activities, Urban Rec is ideal for an individual looking to showcase their sporting prowess but make friends doing so.

You can sign up as an individual and we will place you in a team with other like-minded people! The team will be full of other fun loving, social peeps looking to play sport, who just want to run around and then head to the pub afterwards.

On the first night you’ll just need to introduce yourself to your Event Host (you’ll get emailed closer to the league start date who they are). The EH will introduce you to other members in your team. After that point, you will nominate a captain and operate like a normal team... Your captain will take responsibility of making sure the team has enough players each week.

If you are trying to register with a friend, make sure you two jump on at the same time to guarantee you get on the same team.

We have a whole heap of Individual teams starting in Januray. Be sure to register ASAP as spaces in each team are limited and filling fast!
