We are presently looking for League Hosts and a League Liaion for our upcoming leagues. League Hosts get to be a special part of our Urban Rec team, and are influential and integral in helping to make our leagues better! There is a large selection of locations/nights of league play to choose from. LH roles are compensated with a paid honorarium and come with some great perks! Our League Liaison role is casual/part time for an immediate start.
🤠WHAT DO LEAGUE LIASIONS DO?
Are you an outgoing fun-loving human being who loves sport and running events? Urban Rec Newcastle is looking for a casual/part time League Liaison to join our exciting and growing team.
The role is multi-faceted requiring you to be across multiple parts of our business. Working closely with the General Manager and League Manager you will be responsible for making all our sports leagues run smoothly each night. There is plenty to learn and this will be a very well-rounded experience in the social sports industry!
You must be confident, outgoing, and able to hold the attention of a crowd. You should love sports and events, and you should also have an eye for detail and good business acumen. There are opportunities to be working autonomously so you must be able to think for yourself and make decisions on the fly. We need someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves, get the job done and have fun doing it.
The role is 10 - 15 hours a week during our busy periods and will vary, more hours may become available if suitable. This would suit someone who is studying or has recently finished and looking for their start in the industry. Hours of work will vary between 4pm – 9pm, 4-5days a week from our office in Mayfield and attending our leagues. You will be directly reporting to our League Manager (Newcastle) and General Manager (Newcastle).
LEAGUE LIASION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create social content (photos, stories, competitions, reviews) for regular use on our social media channels as directed
- Replenishing equipment and kits
- Hosting season openers and enders
- Trialling and training new Event Hosts
- Subbing in for Event Hosts in emergency situations
- Facilitating member experience nights
- Capturing content for social media
- Manage League Host min requirements are met including uniforms, music, and signage at events
- Work with General/League Manager to identify and recruit new Event Hosts to join the team
🤠What do LEAGUE HOSTS do?
League Hosts’ roles and responsibilities are to supervise and monitor play in our leagues and tournaments. Our League Hosts facilitate a positive and social atmosphere in all of our activities. You must be outgoing, social and energetic. You must know your sport really well, and feel confident in teaching the rules, and in most cases have access to carry a kit bag with gear.
Most League Hosts work one night per week per season (although some work 2 or more nights). For every night that you host, you receive a free night of play in one of our other leagues! Each league is night-specific; for example, this means that you would work 3-4 hours each Monday for a Monday league for the duration of the league. Most leagues run 10-12 weeks depending on the weather, and anticipated rain outs.
We encourage our participants to League Host a sport they are very familiar with. League Hosts may not play on the same night which they work on.
Responsibilities
- Setting up equipment as needed
- Organizing teams and starting matches on time
- Ensuring schedules, stats and scores are recorded each night
- Be an ambassador for Urban Rec at your venue
- Make announcements about upcoming events before the start of each session
- Interact with participants and ensure that they are having a great experience
- Play music and become a “Party Host”
- Bring a coaching Mentality
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS
- Be an advocate for Urban Rec at your venue/sport
- Contributing to our community by attending our social events, a proud advocate for Urban Rec
- Participating in our social media challenges and trends
- Attending staff social nights
- Nominating members for the Ambassador Program

We are currently recruiting League Hosts for the following positions for next season. Weekday leagues start between 6pm and 8:30pm and last 2 to 4 hours.
