Play It Forward: FIGHT MND

Our members voted to support FightMND, and together, our community has turned that choice into a $3,413 donation.

Through our Access Social Sport x Urban Rec partnership, this latest contribution brings total donations across our joint initiatives to $9,545. It’s a result we’re proud of, made possible by people getting active, getting social and playing for a cause.

Two ways to play it forward

The donation brings together two parts of our community’s fundraising: our third quarterly charitable donation through Play it Forward, and funds raised at our Access Social Sport x Urban Rec charity netball tournament, held at Parklands Sports on 10 October.

Play it Forward gives our members a way to contribute through the sport they already enjoy. Our charity tournament brought people together for another opportunity to turn a day on the court into support for others.

Our members also helped choose where that support would go by voting for FightMND. Having a say in the causes we support makes this a shared effort, from choosing the charity to making the donation possible.

Why FightMND?

Motor neurone disease, or MND, affects the nerves that control voluntary muscles. As those nerves stop working, people can progressively lose their ability to move, speak, swallow and breathe. There is currently no cure. Learn more about MND.

FightMND works towards finding effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure, while also funding initiatives to improve life for people affected by the disease. Read about FightMND.

Its research funding supports scientists investigating how MND develops, the development of potential medicines, and clinical trials that test the safety and effectiveness of possible treatments.

Alongside that research, FightMND invests in care projects. These include research into better care, equipment and technology that can help people maintain independence, and resources and support for people living with MND, their families and carers. See how FightMND uses donations.

Our $3,413 donation contributes to this wider work. Combined with support from other communities across Australia, it helps FightMND fund the search for better treatments and a cure, alongside efforts to improve quality of life today.

Your game has an impact

Community impact means a lot to Access Social Sport and Urban Rec. We see the value of sport every week: people meeting new mates, building confidence and finding a reason to get moving after work.

Play it Forward extends that impact beyond our leagues. All our members play for a cause, helping turn participation into charitable contributions.

Being active and being social can be meaningful. Sometimes, making a contribution starts with something as simple as registering for a season or joining your mates for a game of netball.

Thank you to our members for voting, our tournament players for getting involved, and everyone who helped make the day happen. You’ve all played a part.

Quarter 4 is usually our strongest, and we’re hoping to finish the year on a high by taking our total donations into five figures.

With $9,545 donated so far, we’re just $455 away from $10,000.
